FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An electrician was found dead inside a Fort Lauderdale home Monday afternoon.

The 78-year-old licensed electrician was doing electrical work in the attic of the home located on the 6500 block of Northeast 20th Way.

The homeowner last heard from the electrician around 2:30 p.m. and contacted fire rescue when the man didn’t respond to multiple calls.

“The owner of the property had seen him earlier in the day, but had not heard from him for a couple of hours,” said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan. “When they called out to him, hey wasn’t responding back to them.”

Authorities said the cause of death is under investigation.

“Upon arrival, our crews made contact with the individual and found the individual to be deceased,” said Gollan.

A tactical rescue team removed the body from the attic, which they said was difficult due to the location of the man.

It’s unclear what the man died from. An autopsy has yet to be performed as of Monday evening.

Authorities said the cause of death could be anything from heat exhaustion due to the fact that he was working in the attic for several hours, a medical episode or the possibility that he was electrocuted while doing work.
